There are plenty of places we could have set up a salon, but more than twenty years ago we chose Oxford Street, Bulimba, and we have never looked back. With the Bulimba Festival bringing the street to life again, it feels like the right moment to talk about why this little riverside village means so much to us, and why we think it is one of the best corners of Brisbane to call home.
The Bulimba Festival has become the go to event on the local calendar, and it captures everything we love about this part of the world. Oxford Street fills with music, market stalls, food and familiar faces, and for a day the whole community is out on the footpath together. It is a reminder that beneath the cafes and boutiques, Bulimba still runs on neighbourly connection, the same connection that brings clients back to us year after year.
Part of what makes Bulimba special is its setting. Bordered by the river, leafy and walkable, with ferries at either end and a high street you can happily lose an afternoon in, it draws people from right across the eastern suburbs. We see clients who stroll down from around the corner and others who make the trip from Hawthorne, Balmoral, Morningside and Cannon Hill, and we love being the salon they choose. Our belief from the very beginning has been that people in the suburbs deserve the same standard of hairdressing you would find in the city, and Oxford Street is the perfect place to deliver it.
We have been here since 2002, and the salon has grown alongside the street. Our team has gathered talent from Poland, Brazil, the UK and beyond, all under one roof in Bulimba, and that mix is part of what keeps the work fresh.
