Wedding Season Hair: A Bride's Guide to Trials, Timing and the Perfect Day

Spring is when Queensland's wedding season truly begins, and if there is a wedding in your near future, your hair deserves as much planning as the dress. The good news is that bridal hair is one of the most rewarding things we do, and with a little forethought the whole experience is calm rather than chaotic. Here is how to approach it.

Start with the trial, and book it earlier than you think you need to. A trial is where you and your stylist work out the look together, test how it holds, and make sure it suits your dress, your veil and the way you want to feel on the day. Aim to have your trial a few weeks out from the wedding, with enough time for a second look if you change your mind. Bring photos of styles you love, a sense of your dress neckline, and any hair pieces or veil you plan to wear, because all of it shapes the final look.

Colour needs its own timeline. If you want fresh colour for the day, the sweet spot is usually a week to two weeks before, so it has settled but still looks vibrant. If you are planning a bigger change, such as going lighter, start that journey a couple of months out so it can be done gradually and your hair stays in beautiful condition. This is worth a conversation at your consultation so we can line everything up to peak on the right day.

As for the look itself, it comes down to the feeling you are after. A relaxed, romantic updo with soft texture suits a garden or beach wedding and a flowing dress. A structured, sleek style feels right for a formal or black tie celebration. Many brides land somewhere in between, and that is exactly what the trial is for. And it is not only the bride we look after. We regularly style whole bridal parties, so your bridesmaids and mother of the bride can be ready under the one roof.

If you would like to read more about the styles we create, our upstyles guide on the blog is a lovely place to start. When you are ready, book your bridal trial through the contact page, and have a look at our styling and upstyle services on the services page.
