Choosing the Right Shade of Blonde for You

Choosing the Right Shade of Blonde for You

Did you know there are more than 30 shades of blonde that you can choose from?

Many women think going blonde is not for the faint-hearted especially if your natural hue is dark.

As one of Brisbane’s Best Hairdressers for Blondes, voted by Style Magazine we’re here to tell you that with the right products and hairdresser, that virtually every woman can achieve a level of blonde.

Yes, almost anyone can rock blonde hair, it’s just a matter of choosing the right shade of blonde.

How to choose the right shade of blonde

There are so many shades of blonde to choose from, ranging from platinum blonde to natural blonde, silver blonde, buttery blonde, strawberry blonde, honey blonde, sandy blonde, brownish blonde, and caramel blonde among others.

But how do you pick the right one?

Consider your skin tone

If you forget everything else, remember this tip. Determine if your skin tone leans towards cool or warm tones or if you are neutral. Pearly, ashy or cream shades suit cool undertones best. If you have skin with warm undertones you should lean towards butterscotch, honey and caramel shades. If you have a combination of warm and cool tones, or have neutral toned skin, you can pull off almost any shade of blonde.

Colour of your eyes

Along with the tone of your skin, your colourist will also consider the colour of your eyes when determining the right shade of hair colour. Different hues work best with different coloured eyes and the aim here is to find a shade that flatters your eyes and skin.

The current condition of your hair

Hair colour or bleaching products can only be applied to healthy hair. Damaged hair will only become more damaged. Give your hairdresser the history of your hair and if your hair is too damaged, you and your hairdresser can work on a healthy hair plan before any colour is added. A good hairdressing salon will also stock and use key products such as Olaplex to strengthen your hair and protect it against further damage.

Have reasonable expectations

What you have in mind may not necessarily be the same thing your colourist is thinking about. It helps to have a picture of the type of shade you are looking to ensure you are on the same page visually. Discuss your expectations openly and also consider your colourist’s advice.

Go slow

Being a brunette one day and platinum blonde the next, may be physically possible but not advised due to the damage it will cause to your hair. At the end of the day, you want fabulous looking hair not brittle and damaged hair. Start slow, and aim to get your desired shade one step at a time.

If you are not sure whether you are ready to go suddenly blonde, try getting two shades lighter with every salon visit. You will slowly adjust to the new colour of your hair and love it in no time.

Balayage hair is a fantastic way to achieve a blonde look with minimum maintenance. It can be a great choice for hair that is naturally on the darker side.
